The Advantages of Laser Liposuction
Joseph Then

Liposuction is the plastic surgery procedure where fat is removed form the body in small quantities.  Liposuction does carry some risks because it is a major surgical procedure.  There are liposuction procedures which aim to help minimize risk and make the whole liposuction process easier on the patient.  Laser liposuction is one such technique.

Laser liposuction involved the use of a laser to aid in fat removal.  In traditional liposuction the fat is sucked up through a cannula attached to a suction device.  Often bruising, swelling and blood loss are main concerns of liposuction.

With laser liposuction there are many advantages because the cannula has a laser on the tip of it that liquefies the fat and makes for the need for less suction power, thus exposing the body to less harm.

Laser liposuction is a fairly new process.  Here are some things to consider when thinking about getting laser liposuction:

- It is less evasive then traditional liposuction.
- The laser can be fine tuned for exact sculpturing of the body.
- It is so new that complete studies have not been done to show long term effects or the total risks.
- The laser can be effective in skin tightening, too.
- The effects of laser exposure is not completely known.
- Not all surgeons are trained to do laser liposuction.
- It makes the procedure safer because it helps to reduce blood loss.
- The use of a laser causes less pain afterward for the patient and makes recovery quicker.

Getting liposuction is not an alternative to weight loss.  During liposuction surgeons are limited as to how much fat they can remove.  This limit is general 10 pounds and that is usually combined from fat removed in different areas of the body, not just one area.

Liposuction patients should be aware of the risks and the reasons for liposuction.  They should also know what results to expect.
Laser liposuction is still liposuction.  It is a fairly new procedure and choosing a skilled and experienced surgeon to do the laser liposuction procedure is important.  Choosing a surgeon that is unfamiliar with the laser liposuction procedure could mean less then perfect results.

Choosing to get laser liposuction may be a great option.  Currently, though, it is not a wide spread option.  You may need to do some looking around to find a surgeon that can perform laser liposuction.  However, the news about laser liposuction seems to be rather good, making it a very viable and beneficial alternative to traditional liposuction.
